People’s Progressive Alliance Manipur gives MLAs 7-day ultimatum to declare stand on govt formation

People’s Progressive Alliance Manipur (PPAM) urges all MLAs of Manipur to disclose their stand whether they will form the government or not within one week.

The group warned to launch a signature campaign if the MLAs fail to translate their demand into action.

Addressing the media during a press conference held today, a member of PPA Manipur, Thokchom Sujata, said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the recent parliament session, has stated the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur as no political party claims to form a government.

But his statement is unacceptable. The people of the state know the political drama of the central government to resign the previous chief minister.

“The previous CM was called by the centre on February 7, and after two days, he came with the BJP North East in charge. Just one day before the Manipur Legislative Assembly, he submitted his resignation to the governor. Out of fear that everything would be exposed in the assembly, CM was resigned under the pressure of central leaders,” she alleged.

She further said that though PR was imposed in the state yet it is still not impactful in addressing the issue. The laws and order are not executed in an equivalent manner between hill and valley. In the hill district, it is still not certain how many arms and ammunition have been surrendered. Despite the Union Home Minister's announcement of free movement on national highways. However, it again failed. Amid imposition of PR, people are still not safe, as recently one youth identified as Mukesh has gone missing, but is unable to be traced.

She also strongly condemned against Meitei community for not being able to conduct a pilgrimage to Thangjing Hill on the auspicious celebration of the Cheiraoba festival.

She also highlighted about viral video of the desecration of the Salai Taret Flag of the Meitei community by the Kuki Community. Sujata said that the country is governed by the rule of law. As such, they should not conduct anything which will hurt the sentiment of the people of the particular community.

Sujata, while stating that people of are state are bearing untold suffering, urged all MLAs to disclose their stand on whether they will be able to form the government or not. Otherwise, the present government should dissolve and prepare for a new government. They should stop waiting for orders from the central government rather focus on ruling the state with their own will and power.

It may be mentioned that PPA is a group that comprises 16 like-minded civil society organisations.
