Thousands of people belonging to the Kuki community are fleeing from violence-hit Manipur after clashes broke out between the Kukis and Meitei community on May 3.
Visuals of thousands of Kukis making a beeline to the airport has surfaced, who preparing to leave the conflict-hit state fearing further breakdown of law and order situation.
The state has been reeling under a tense situation following violent clashes that broke out on May 3 between the two groups in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
The tribal bodies of the state of Manipur conducted a solidarity march, led by ATSUM, the apex tribal body of the state, protesting against the demand of inclusion of Meitei’s in the ST list.
Already several states have begun their evacuation of students stranded in Manipur amid the tense situation.
With ‘Shoot-at Sight’ order in place, situation continues to remain volatile in sensitive locations where reports of vandalism, arson continue to pour in.
After the onset of recent communal tension, many people from various places of Manipur were stranded relief camp in search of safe zone. The relief camps open at Churachandpur district at BSF-STC, Mini Secretariat Complex in Tuibong, IB Headquarter and Assam Rifles in Khuga Dam. This first batch of evacuation was done by giving priority to children, old age and sick person. All the remaining stranded people will also evacuate in phase manner.
