Women's organization criticizes Amit Shah's 'inconsistent portrayal' of Manipur crisis

The women's organization Ima gi Meira has strongly opposed the decisions taken during a high-level meeting on the Manipur crisis, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting, held in Delhi on June 17, has sparked widespread condemnation from various sectors, particularly concerning the Union Minister's shifting stance on the conflict.

Addressing the media, Thokchom Sujata, Convenor of Ima gi Meira, criticized the Union leader for his inconsistent portrayal of the Manipur crisis. She noted that initially, the central leadership attributed the conflict to foreign militants, but it has since been recharacterized as an ethnic clash between the Kuki and Meitei communities. This inconsistency has, according to Sujata, caused confusion among the state's populace.

Sujata further objected to the decision to deploy additional central forces, arguing that the current deployment has not quelled the violence. She asserted that increasing troop numbers is not the solution and called for the central government to adopt a more effective approach and feasible mechanisms to end the ongoing conflict.

Additionally, Sujata questioned the rationale behind conducting the high-level meeting without the presence of the state's Chief Minister, who also serves as the Home Minister. She urged the Union Home Minister to convene a fresh meeting that includes the Chief Minister to ensure comprehensive and effective discussions.

Sujata also appealed to the Prime Minister to pay attention to the current crisis in Manipur, emphasizing the need for urgent and meaningful intervention.
