Hundreds of citizens led by women, children, and college students hit the streets of Laitumkhrah Shillong on July 23 to protest against the Union and State governments’ inaction in containing the violence in Manipur.
A candlelight vigil was also held at Laitumkhrah Square in solidarity with all the victims who lost their lives during the two months long Manipur conflict.
Young and old, men and women, children including from both Meitei and the Kuki community participated in today’s candlelight vigil.
“We want reconciliation and we want peace” and “Justice for Manipur”, a loud voice was heard from all the participants of today’s candlelight vigil.
It is worth mentioning that the video showing two women being paraded naked in Manipur has sparked massive outrage across the country.
The video has also drawn sharp condemnation from the opposition demanding the dispatch of an all-party delegation to Manipur without delay.
However, in the latest development, four persons have been arrested for their alleged connection to the matter and have been sent to 11-day police custody.
