President Draupadi Murmu to inaugurate 5th Meghalaya Games in Tura tomorrow

President Draupadi Murmu is set to make history by visiting Tura in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya, for the very first time. The occasion marks the inauguration of the 5th Meghalaya Games, a celebration of athleticism, culture, and tradition.

The event is scheduled to commence on Monday, January 15, at the iconic P A Sangma Stadium in Tura.

The President's presence adds an extra layer of significance to the occasion, as she takes center stage to officially open the games. Joining her will be Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chouhan, along with a host of other dignitaries and invited guests.

The inauguration promises to be a spectacle, featuring performances by about 300 artists showcasing traditional Garo, Jaintia, and Khasi dances, as well as songs that encapsulate the vibrant culture of Meghalaya.

Highlighting the diverse nature of the Meghalaya Games, approximately 3,000 athletes from various corners of the state have already descended upon Tura to participate in the sporting extravaganza. With 20 categories of games, including traditional Meghalayan sports, the event is set to captivate sports enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs alike.

Tura is hosting boxing matches for the first time, contributing to the growth and diversification of sports within the region.
