In a significant move towards bolstering aviation security in the Northeast, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officially took over operations at Lengpui Airport—Mizoram’s only domestic airport—on Thursday.
The handover ceremony saw Mizoram DGP Anil Shukla present the CISF flag to the newly appointed Chief Airport Security Officer (CASO) of Lengpui Airport. An initial deployment of 121 personnel, led by a Deputy Commandant, is now operational, with strength expected to rise to 214.
This marks the 69th Indian airport to come under CISF protection and is the first time a CISF unit has been deployed in Mizoram. The force replaces the joint security arrangement previously managed by the Mizoram State Police and the CRPF since 1999.

With over two decades of aviation security expertise, the CISF’s presence is expected to enhance surveillance, counter threats, and provide a more streamlined passenger experience. The move aligns with the Centre’s vision to tighten civil aviation security nationwide.
Lengpui now joins the CISF’s expansive network across all Indian states and union territories—except Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep.
