Mizoram: Aizawl’s Edenthar locality under threat, families evacuate due to imminent rockslide danger

In a preemptive move to prevent potential casualties, five families from Edenthar locality in Aizawl evacuated their homes on Sunday. This urgent action followed the alarming loosening of several large rocks positioned precariously above their residences, posing an immediate risk of collapse.

In a concerning development, one of the houses was dismantled due to the imminent danger. The situation drew the attention of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister K. Sapdanga, who conducted an on-site inspection today, accompanied by Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Er. Lalhriatpuia and other officials from the DM&R Department.

Following the inspection, Minister Sapdanga directed the community leaders of Edenthar to relocate all affected families to the Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) building within the same locality. In a gesture of support, he contributed Rs. 10,000 to the community from the DM&R fund, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.

This swift response highlights the collaborative efforts between government officials and local leaders in addressing the immediate threats posed by natural disasters, ensuring that the residents of Edenthar are safeguarded from potential harm.
