In a significant move to curb the drug menace in Mizoram, the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) is set to incinerate a large consignment of illegal drugs following approval from the state government.
The haul, which includes heroin, methamphetamine, prescription drugs, cough syrups, and ganja, represents substances that either cannot be legally seized or lack sufficient grounds for registering cases.
This step marks a proactive effort by the CYMA in collaboration with authorities to ensure that these dangerous drugs are permanently destroyed and cannot make their way into the community. The incineration process, which has been officially sanctioned, is expected to set an example in the fight against illicit drugs, demonstrating the association's commitment to ridding the region of harmful substances.
The CYMA, renowned for its active role in social causes, sought special permission from the government to handle the destruction of these substances responsibly, ensuring that no traces of the drugs remain. This decisive action is seen as a vital contribution to the ongoing battle against drug abuse in Mizoram.
