Mizoram: Visual of Myanmar army entering state territory emerges, 278 soldiers seek refuge

In a recent development, visual evidence has emerged of 278 soldiers from the Myanmar Army entering the territory of Mizoram, a state in Northeast India.

This influx of military personnel seeking refuge follows a clash along the Karma River near the border.

The soldiers, fully armed and equipped, crossed into Indian territory in the Bandukba area of Lawngtlai District, Mizoram.

They were then escorted to an Assam Rifles camp where they spent the night.

This incident is part of a larger refugee crisis affecting Mizoram.

Previously, around 4,000 to 5,000 people from Myanmar, including 39 army personnel, sought refuge in Mizoram's Champhai district following intense clashes between Myanmar's ruling junta-backed forces and local militia groups.

Among these refugees, 21 were injured, with five in critical condition, necessitating medical treatment in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram.

The Tyao River, also known as Tiau or Tio, which forms part of the international boundary between India and Myanmar, has become a crossing point for those fleeing unrest.

Mizoram shares a border with Myanmar, alongside other Indian states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur, all of which have historical ties with Myanmar through heritage, religion, language, and ethnicity.

The situation remains tense and complex, with the Mizoram government and local authorities managing the humanitarian aspects of the crisis while awaiting further direction from national agencies regarding the international and security implications of the Myanmar military personnel's presence on Indian soil.
