Mizoram: ZPM working president appreciates ECI for rescheduling vote counting due to religious sensibilities

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to reschedule the date for counting votes in Mizoram from Sunday, December 3 to Monday, December 4. The move comes in response to concerns raised by the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) party, particularly highlighting the religious significance of Sundays for Christians in Mizoram.

Expressing delight over the decision, PU K Sapdanga, ZPM Working President, conveyed sincere gratitude to the Election Commission for considering and accommodating the request made by the party. The decision to shift the counting date was welcomed by the ZPM party, acknowledging it as a positive outcome that respects the religious sentiments of the Christian community in Mizoram.

The ZPM Working President applauded the combined efforts of various entities involved in advocating for the date change, giving special mention to the NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC) and Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitu Committee (MKHC). These organizations played a crucial role in championing the cause and ensuring that the concerns of the ZPM party were heard and addressed.

Highlighting the timeline of events, Sapdanga revealed that on October 10, the ZPM party had initially submitted a written request to the Election Commission, expressing their disappointment over scheduling the counting of votes on a Sunday. Despite not receiving an immediate response, the party persisted in its efforts and submitted a second written request on November 9th.

The ZPM leader stated the importance of Sundays as sacred for Christians in Mizoram and expressed gratitude to the people of the state who fervently prayed for a favorable outcome. Pu K Sapdanga urged everyone to join in praising the Almighty for the positive development, considering it a significant win for the people of Mizoram.
