One of the most eagerly anticipated celebrations in Mizoram, the Anthurium Festival Season 2023, kicked off with a vibrant display of culture, traditions, and festivities today at the picturesque Reiek Tourist Resort in Mizoram. The event brought together locals and visitors alike to experience the rich tapestry of Mizo culture.
This annual festival, which has been a cherished tradition since 2006, has been celebrated with enthusiasm year after year. The 2023 edition of the Anthurium Festival is slated to conclude tomorrow, on October 21, 2023, promising a whirlwind of events and activities.
The festival's inauguration saw a myriad of cultural performances presented by different colleges and cultural clubs, captivating the audience with their vibrant and diverse expressions of Mizo heritage. The spirit of unity and cultural preservation was evident in every dance and song that graced the stage.
In addition to the cultural displays, a variety of delectable food stalls were set up, offering a tantalizing array of Mizo and regional delicacies. Among the stalls, the SVEEP Stall stood out, adorned with a signature board urging visitors to cast their votes in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of civic participation.
Dr. Lalrozama, IAS officer and Secretary of the Tourism Department, had the honor of being the chief guest at the inauguration. In his address to the gathered crowd, he highlighted the significance of the Anthurium Festival in promoting Mizo culture and traditions. Dr. Lalrozama emphasized the need to safeguard and promote these cultural treasures while underscoring the role of tourism in fostering self-employment and self-sufficiency.
"Tourism not only showcases our culture and traditions to the world but is also a path towards economic empowerment. Let us all join hands in preserving the natural beauty and resources of Mizoram for the generations to come," urged Dr. Lalrozama.
Today's festival celebration was divided into three segments, with the first segment chaired by Pu.V. Lalengmawia, Joint Secretary of the Tourism Department. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Pi. Lalthakimi Pachuau, Joint Director of the Tourism Department.
