Road collapses in Mizoram's Pukpui, travelers diverted to Buichali route

The road near the Pukpui waterfall in Mizoram collapsed on July 9, posing a threat due to its narrow and slippery condition exacerbated by soil erosion caused by incessant rainfall over the past few days.

Following the incident, authorities advised travelers heading to Lengpui Airport to avoid the road and use the alternative Buichali route.

Continuous rainfall over the past few days has triggered soil erosion, contributing to the dangerous state of the road. Officials cautioned passersby to remain cautious in the affected area.

Earlier, in the first week of July, Mizoram had witnessed a series of landslides causing significant damage across the state, following which three houses were also tragically destroyed in Aizawl's Zuangtui locality.

As a precautionary measure, the Local Council of Aizawl's Salem Veng had swiftly evacuated 20 families from their homes to safer locations. Reports indicated that several other landslides had also resulted in property damage in various parts of Mizoram.
