KOHIMA: The rampant spread of the COVID-19 has played a Christmas spoilsport this year, and understandably so. After the recent vaccine success stories, the attention has now to the emergence of the more infectious strain of the virus, which has put Governments on edge once again. A tiny little hamlet in Nagaland's Zunheboto district, however, is leaving the worries behind as its favourite son -- Rock superstar Alobo Naga -- has returned to host a mega-Carnival to commemorate the big festival.

Alobo Naga says he has returned to his hometown -- Tsaphimi -- because of the COVID-19 outbreak that has put a dampener on festivities this year. "My family is organizing the Christmas celebrations this year and people are enjoying the music and the good vibes. Last night, two concerts were organized and tonight also, we are planning two more concerts. We have organized a Carnival that comprises a movie night, concerts, and so much more. We even had a Korean singer here a few days back, which is quite remarkable. Sadly, something like this cannot happen in the cities right now because of the prevailing situation," Naga told Inside Northeast.

The musician further went on to say that he is not missing the "buzz" of city life during Christmas. "Christmas is always so much better in the village," Alobo opined, adding that people are less concerned about the pandemic in the village as the chances of getting an infection are far lesser, as there is less crowding.

So why did Alobo Naga, internationally renowned superstar, host a mega village in the tiny village?

"If it was not for the COVID, we would have been doing this elsewhere. We have organized this event here for a limited circle. People have had a tough year overall, and by organizing this festival, I feel that they will get a much needed break from their worries," Naga told us.
