Hundreds of Naga youth rallied against alleged influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland at the State Capital here on Friday under the aegis of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF). They also demanded inclusion of Dimapur under the ambit of inner line permit (ILP) as per the provision in the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873.
After gathering at the NSF’s office, the rallyists walked up to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s residence under heavy rain to submit a memorandum listing their charter of demands.
Earlier, addressing the gathering at the federation’s office, NSF president Kesosul Christopher Ltu blasted the State government for allegedly not doing enough to control the growing menace of illegal immigrants in Nagaland. He said the people were compelled to rally against the problem as earlier representations to the government seeking solution in this regard had failed to elicit positive response.
Citing an instance of the government’s lackadaisical attitude, Ltu said most check gates remained ineffective and there was no record of how many individuals enter or leave the State. He also urged Naga individuals and organisations to remain vigilant and help in curbing the influx of illegal immigrants.
