The proposed publication of the “complete draft” of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam on July 30 has set the alarm bell ringing in neighbouring Nagaland.
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Wednesday insisted that the Nagaland government should take adequate measures to thwart the possible infiltration of illegal immigrants.
“With the state of Nagaland currently facing immeasurable problems and influx of illegal immigrants and with the publication of the final draft of NRC by the state of Assam, it is being viewed that massive alarming migration of illegal immigrants is bound to happen if the state government does not take necessary measures to monitor the flow of illegal immigrants”, the NSF said in a statement.
The NSF demanded that the Nagaland government keep in place a strict mechanism to monitor the entry and exit of the immigrants. On its part, it decided to conduct spot verification of non-locals at the entry and exit points in the state.
The NSF urged the public, both local and non-local settlers, not to entertain or make any effort to create passage for the immigrants. It warned that it would initiate “strict and befitting action” against the defaulters.
