NEW DELHI: Prime minister Narendra Modi's new cabinet will be sworn in with as many as 43 new members this evening.
PM Modi's mega reshuffle would be one of the most inclusive in history, with a record number of SC and ST members participating.
According to reports, there will be 12 members of the SC community in the council of ministers, two of whom will be in the cabinet; eight members of Scheduled tribes (ST) will be in the council of ministers, three of whom will be in the cabinet.
Moreover, the Modi government is likely to have 27 OBC leaders after cabinet expansion, with five of them serving in the cabinet.
Following the expansion, it is expected that there would be a total of five ministers from North East India region.
According to reports, one member from each of the Christian, Muslim, and Sikh communities, as well as two Buddhists, will also be included.
The new cabinet would include 39 former MLAs and four former chief ministers to bring in administrative and federal government experience.

The expansion exercise is scheduled to be held at 6 pm this evening at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Since the NDA won a second term in power in 2019, this would be the first cabinet expansion.
