New Delhi, February 9, 2020:

An Indian Army Jawan was martyred after Pakistan resorted to cross border firing in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch sector.

Three others have been reportedly injured in the cross border firing between the Indian and Pakistani Army. According to reports, the Pakistani army violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and fired mortars on the villages and posts in the area.

According to a statement, the Pakistani troops had initiated the unprovoked ceasefire violation at around 3.45 pm on Saturday by firing small arms and mortar shells along the Line of Control (LoC) in Degwar sector of Poonch, which led to the killing of the jawan.

It may be mentioned here that last week, the Centre informed that Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu 2,335 times between May 30, 2019 and January 20, 2020. Around 177 incidents of cross-border firing took place in the region during the period.
