The cyclonic storm Gaja has hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Friday causing havoc in the region.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the wind speed gusted around 120 kilometres per hour.
The worst affected areas include Nagapattinam district, with a maximum rainfall of 48.4 mm and Karaikal which falls under Puducherry administration.
As per the reports of IMD, the present wind speed is at 80-90kmph flurried to 100 kmph.
The cyclonic storm killed at least 11 people, following which the Tamil Nadu government announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for the families of the victims.
