Bengal woman brutally attacked by Tajmul alias ‘JCB’ in public; Trinamool MLA invokes 'Muslim Rashtra'

In West Bengal, a disturbing video of a violent assault on a couple went viral, leading to widespread condemnation and calls for justice. The assailant, identified as Tajmul alias "JCB," is alleged to be a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in Chopra, Uttar Dinajpur district. The attack reportedly followed a kangaroo court decision.

The West Bengal Police acting on the incident registered a case and arrested Tajmul. Despite this, Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman downplayed the TMC's connection to Tajmul, labeling the woman's actions as "unsocial" and attributing the incident to village matters. Rahaman remarked, "We condemn the incident. But the woman also did wrong. She left her husband, son, and daughter and became an evil beast. There is some code and justice according to Muslim rashtra."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and CPI(M) have slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led government for the incident. Union Minister and Bengal BJP Chief Sukanta Majumdar expressed deep concerns over Rahaman's statements regarding "Muslim Rashtra" and Sharia law implications, questioning if West Bengal was moving towards such a regime.

Islampur Police district released a statement addressing attempts to spread misinformation, confirming the arrest of the accused and providing security to the victim couple. Superintendent Joby Thomas K noted the prompt police action following verification of the viral video.

The video depicts the accused mercilessly beating the woman with bamboo sticks, dragging her by the hair, and kicking her, while a crowd looked on. The man accompanying her was also assaulted.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya shared the video, criticizing Mamata Banerjee’s administration and highlighting similar incidents under her rule. CPI(M) state secretary Mohammed Salim and Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also condemned the attack, calling for justice and decrying the erosion of law and order in the state.

TMC spokesperson Shantanu Sen acknowledged the incident, comparing it to similar practices during the Left Front regime, and emphasized that an internal investigation would be conducted.
