Bihar: Tragedy strikes after 3 Assam Rifles jawans deployed for election duty drown in river

In a harrowing turn of events, three Assam Rifles jawans, tasked with election duty in Bihar's Samastipura for the Lok Sabha elections, met a tragic fate as they drowned in a river on Tuesday, May 14.

The incident unfolded following the completion of election procedures when the trio, engaged in routine activities, found themselves engulfed by the waters of a nearby river while attempting to bathe.

Local residents, demonstrating commendable swiftness and bravery, promptly intervened and managed to rescue two of the jawans from the perilous waters. However, the third jawan remains unaccounted for, prompting an extensive search operation in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

Vikas Pandey, serving as the sub-divisional officer of Patori, recounted the unfortunate episode, stating, "An unfortunate incident took place after the election procedure was completed where three soldiers started drowning in a river when they had to take a bath." He further added, "The locals saved two of the jawans. The body of the third jawan is being searched with the help of SDRF."
