Himanta Biswa Sarma slams Congress over alleged snub of Kharge during Priyanka Gandhi's nomination

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the Congress party over an alleged incident involving Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

The BJP has claimed that Kharge was denied entry while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was filing her nomination for the Wayanad by-polls.

In his remarks, Sarma stated, "We have shown what is Dalit's position in Congress. Outside, Rahul Gandhi shows that Congress party supports Dalits and gives them equal participation. But inside, Dalits are insulted. What happened with Mallikarjun Kharge yesterday, after that there is nothing left to tell people. Congress is exposed...Within the party, Dalits are insulted and treated as third-class citizens, and untouchability is practised."

The comments come amid heightened political tensions as various parties prepare for upcoming elections.

The Congress party has not yet responded to these allegations.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the BJP would elevate the Hussainabad sub-division in Palamu district to district status if the party secures victory in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections.

Sarma stated that the newly created district would be named in honour of a revered Hindu deity, either Lord Ram or Lord Krishna, as a tribute to the cultural heritage.

Sarma, who is serving as the co-in-charge of the BJP's election campaign in Jharkhand, declared that the district status for Hussainabad would be officially granted during the first cabinet meeting of the newly elected government. He emphasized that the BJP's commitment to transforming the sub-division into a district would be among the party's initial steps upon assuming power.
