United States President Joe Biden arrived in Delhi for his first visit to India since taking office. His visit comes in conjunction with the two-day G20 Summit scheduled for September 9 and 10, where world leaders will converge to address pressing global issues.
Upon his arrival, President Biden was received at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, where he disembarked from Air Force One, his official aircraft. His visit holds substantial significance as it marks his inaugural trip to India as the President of the United States.
One of the pivotal highlights of President Biden's visit is his anticipated meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders are scheduled to hold discussions at the Prime Minister's residence in Delhi on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. The meeting is expected to encompass a wide range of topics, including international cooperation, strategic partnerships, and bilateral agreements.
Several critical issues are poised for discussion during their bilateral meeting. Foremost among them is a potential deal for fighter jet engines, reflecting the deepening defense ties between the two nations. Additionally, the procurement of predator drones and collaboration on cutting-edge technologies such as 5G and 6G networks are also on the agenda.
Notably, speculations have arisen regarding a major rail deal between the United States and India. While U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan did not confirm these reports, he acknowledged the U.S.'s commitment to enhancing connectivity between India, the Middle East, and Europe. He emphasized the potential economic and strategic benefits that such connectivity could offer to the participating nations.
Before departing for India, President Biden expressed his views on the G20 Summit via his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). He highlighted the importance of the G20 as a premier forum for international economic cooperation and its potential to address key priorities for the United States. President Biden reaffirmed his commitment to making progress on American interests, supporting developing nations, and reinforcing the G20 as an effective platform for global cooperation.
