Nobody's afraid of PM Modi, someone threw 'chappal' at him in Varanasi: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he claimed that "somebody hurled a chappal (sandal) at his" convoy in Varanasi. He asserted that the fear PM Modi once instilled in the country has dissipated.

Speaking at a press meet on June 20, Gandhi said, "Now nobody in the country is afraid of him (PM Modi). Earlier the chest was 56 inches, but now I cannot give the number, but it has become 30-32."

Gandhi elaborated on his point stating, "Before the elections, if someone wanted to hit him, there was fear, now that fear has ended," he said, indicating a significant shift in public sentiment.

The Congress leader attributed this change to a broader weakening of Modi's influence, both within the public sphere and his own party.

"His way of working is to scare people, to intimidate them, now that fear is gone," Gandhi added. He suggested that internal strife within the saffron party.

Gandhi further claimed that the opposition has effectively dismantled the image of Modi that once loomed large over Indian politics.

"The concept of Narendra Modi has been demolished by the opposition, it has been finished... There is a very strong opposition, so it is a very interesting time," Gandhi said.

He also took a jibe at the Prime Minister, saying, “It was being said that Modi ji stopped the Russia-Ukraine war. But for some reason, Narendra Modi has not been able to stop or doesn't want to stop paper leaks in India.”

Rahul Gandhi claimed that the paper leaks were happening as the “education system has been captured by the BJP's parent organisation."
