Union ministers walk the ramp to celebrate northeast India's culture at Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar took to the ramp at the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav fashion show, held at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday. The fashion show, a key highlight of the three-day event, celebrated the vibrant cultural and stylistic traditions of Northeast India.

Scindia later shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), applauding the talented artists and models who represented the region. "Truly a celebration of culture and creativity! Each state was beautifully represented by talented artists and models," he wrote, emphasising the event's cultural richness.

The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, aims to showcase Northeast India’s potential in textiles, tourism, traditional craftsmanship, and unique Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products. Conceptualised as an annual event, the festival not only celebrates the region's diversity but also focuses on economic growth through its rich cultural assets.

The event features artisan exhibitions, state-specific pavilions, Grameen haats, and technical sessions to explore opportunities in handicrafts, handlooms, agriculture, and tourism. Visitors can also enjoy musical performances and sample indigenous cuisines, offering a holistic experience of Northeast India's cultural vibrancy.

Scheduled from December 6 to 8, the Mahotsav has positioned itself as a platform for promoting the region’s economic and strategic significance while celebrating its artistic and cultural legacy.
