The 210th birth anniversary of Aadi Kavi Bhanubhakta Acharya was celebrated with great zeal in Gangtok on July 13 as a state-level celebration with a huge cultural procession (Shova Yatra), which encircled the entire town in the morning.
Students from various schools, NGOs, civil society, among others participated.
Bhanu Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the celebrated poet and writer Bhanubhakta Acharya, which falls on July 13, is celebrated with great cultural and literary fervour by the Nepalese people all over the world. Bhanubhakta is mainly known for translating Hindu Holy Book Ramayana in Nepali.
In Sikkim, celebrations are not limited to the Nepali community only. People from all communities, irrespective of caste or creed,take part in the festivities related to Bhanu Jayanti,re-affirming the communal harmony that exists among the Sikkimese people.

Chief guest for the inaugural function of the state level Bhanu Jayanti celebration at Bhanu Park, Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya said 'that this day should not be seen merely as a day to celebrate his birth anniversary, but it should also be a celebration of Nepali literature and culture, and above all a festival of being Nepalis.'
The legendary poet’s contribution to Nepali literature, culture and tradition is immeasurable, and now it is on us to take the rich legacy forward, he also added.
This year's Bhanu Puraskar 2023 was conferred to eminent litterateur Dup Thsering Lepcha of Gangtok. The celebration was organised by the Nepali Sahitya Parishad (NSP) Sikkim. The prestigious award is annually presented by NSP Sikkim to the Nepali literature stalwarts during the Bhanu Jayanti celebrations at Gangtok.
