Sikkim: Aditya Golay poised for victory in Soreng-Chakung constituency with no opposition

Aditya Golay, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) candidate for the Soreng-Chakung constituency has countered the opposition’s allegations of foul play and said that the party is poised to achieve a historic victory in the upcoming elections. Speaking to reporters, Golay expressed gratitude to his party president for his nomination and acknowledged the overwhelming support from local party workers who advocated for his candidacy.

“Thank you to the party supporters of Soreng-Chakung who raised their voices for me to be their candidate. It is an honor to represent them,” Golay said. He addressed recent comments made by rival candidate Prem Bahadur Bhandari  and said that Bhandari ’s opinions are personal and that he remains hopeful for future collaboration for the constituency's development.

When asked about allegations concerning the elections, Golay dismissed claims of misconduct, urging critics to consult the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) for factual clarification. “I have no comment on those allegations, as they have been dismissed on technical grounds,” he said.

Golay spoke about the SKM's ambition to secure all 32 seats in Sikkim, a dream they fell short of in previous elections due to one lost seat. “With recent developments, I believe we can achieve our goal. We have much work ahead to ensure that public benefits are delivered efficiently,” he said.

Golay highlighted his commitment to engaging with the younger population of Soreng-Chakung. “The needs of the youth will evolve, and we must adapt our policies accordingly. I plan to actively involve them in our initiatives and ensure their voices are heard,” he said.

Speaking on the party's past achievements, he acknowledged the challenge of maintaining and improving systems for public services. “My primary agenda is to systematize our efforts over the past five years. We need structured boards for health, advisory services, and public benefits,” Golay said.

With the elections fast approaching, Golay remains optimistic about surpassing the 10,480 votes garnered in the last general elections under the leadership of SKM president P.S. Golay. “While we may not have broken that record yet, I am confident that with the support of our party, we will exceed expectations in this election,” he said.

In the face of ongoing controversies involving allegations from the opposition and external parties, Golay maintained that the SKM operates based on facts and transparency. “The Election Commission is an independent body, and all decisions are made based on factual grounds. If they wish to pursue legal action, they are welcome to do so,” he said.
