Sikkim: Bhaichung Bhutia announces merger of Hamro Sikkim Party with SDF, says will look for entire state's welfare

Bhaichung Bhutia, former football star and president of Hamro Sikkim Party declared the merger of his party with the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). The announcement was made during a SDF program at Rabongla, South Sikkim on November 23.

Addressing reporters, Bhutia remarked "I'm very, very happy. I've been able to join Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) in my own hometown. We've seen what SDF has accomplished in four and a half years," he said.

"People have realized that we've made a big mistake. That's why SDF 2.0 is crucial in 2024 to come back," Bhutia stated. He expressed a personal connection to the move, stating, "This is my birthplace, my village, and I'm happy to come back and work for the welfare of the people of Sikkim."

Bhutia said, "It's not only about my hometown; we'll be looking at the entire Sikkim for welfare. The 2024 elections are crucial due to the impending 2026 delimitation. SDF will be able to deliver justice for the people of Sikkim."

Speaking on his past opposition to Pawan Kumar Chamling, Bhutia said, "I've opposed SDF government during their time, especially on employment. However, SDF has come back and given jobs to 20,001 families," Bhutia clarified.
He expressed concern about the current administration, noting, "Today, if you advise them anything, they try to burn your effigy, showing a government with zero administration."

Bhutia also brought attention to a Supreme Court case involving Chief Minister PS Golay.
"Mr. Golay himself has a Supreme Court case for a backdoor entry  compromising Sikkim and its people," he remarked.

On the matter of trust, considering his history of switching political affiliations, Bhutia stated, "We started our party with a clean image and young leadership but people didn't accept us. When people don't accept you, you need to change with the party that will look for the betterment of Sikkim and SDF is that party."
