Sikkim celebrates Losar festival with great pomp and grandeur

The three-day Lachung Dzomsa Losar Festival is being celebrated in North Sikkim's Lachung from February 23 with great pomp and grandeur.

On this occasion, various cultural programme are organized giving importance to various traditional specialties and folk cultures. 

Losar is a festival in Tibetan Buddhism and this festival is also celebrated as the Tibetan New Year. Additionally, this festival is also celebrated with great enthusiasm. 

This time this festival started on February 23 and this is a special religious festival of Tibet.

During this festival, people of Tibetan origin wear colorful clothes and many types of religious programs are organized as people dance as well as colorful flags are hoisted on houses, monasteries, and hills.

Apart from Sikkim, Losar is also celebrated with great pomp in places like Ladakh, Nepal, and Bhutan. 

The people in these places people decorate their houses and temples with lights.

During this festival, the goddess Palden Lhamo of Tibet is worshipped and on this day people also visit the graves of their family members and pray for the peace of the soul of their ancestors.
