Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang heads towards Guwahati to attend NEC plenary meeting in Shillong

The chief minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang embarked on a journey aboard the Vande Bharat Express bound for Guwahati on January 18 to attend the North Eastern Council Plenary meeting set to convene in Shillong on Friday January 19.

The NEC, a regional planning body encompassing eight northeastern states, will hold its plenary session at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah presiding as the chairperson.

The meeting is a significant event, drawing Governors and Chief Ministers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, all of whom are members of the NEC. 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is the ex-officio chariperson of the council while Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) minister G Kishan Reddy is its vice-chairman.

Reddy and Minister of State, DoNER, B.L. Verma, including senior officers of DoNER and NITI Aayog will take part in the plenary.

During the plenary meet, Shah will release the NEC Year Book on this occasion. Secretary of NEC, K Moses Chalai will present the welcome address. Secretary of DoNER Chanchal Kumar, will brief on activities being undertaken in DoNER.
