Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang lauds Budget 2024 for Vital GLOF relief support

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the central government following the announcement of the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The budget has earmarked substantial relief funds to aid Sikkim's recovery from the catastrophic Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) that ravaged the state in October 2023.

 

In her budget address, Sitharaman emphasized the allocation dedicated to GLOF relief, which has been warmly welcomed by Tamang. He acknowledged the crucial financial assistance and the government’s responsiveness to Sikkim’s needs, as outlined in their comprehensive report submitted to the Union government and Home Minister.

"We are thankful to the central government for addressing the concerns outlined in our report. The relief support announced today is a significant boost for Sikkim’s recovery efforts," Tamang stated, underscoring the importance of the announced aid.

 

Tamang further praised the inclusiveness of the budget, highlighting its positive impact on diverse sectors including youth, the underprivileged, and farmers. "The budget is comprehensive and beneficial for all segments of society. I congratulate the central government for their efforts and support," he added.

 

The relief fund allocation marks a critical step in aiding Sikkim’s rehabilitation process, providing much-needed resources to rebuild and support affected communities.
