Amidst the ravages caused by flash floods in Sikkim, a zipline has been established across the Teesta river so that essential commodities can be supplied to Upper Dzongu. Noteworthy is that this step has been taken by the authorities after the Sankalang bridge, which connects Upper Dzongu to Mangan, got washed away.
This initiative has been taken up by the BDO Mani Kumar Rai, ecotourism NGO Himsikha Adventures and the local people. Today the first batch of essential commodities were supplied using the zipline across the Teesta river to the people of Upper Dzongu. The commodities are being supplied to seven villages in Upper Dzongu which have been isolated ever since communication snapped with the washing away of the Sankalang bridge.
Noteworthy here is that a team formed by the Union Home Ministry is arriving in Sikkim today to assess the situation in the Himalayan state in the aftermath of the flash floods. The team has been constituted of officials from various union ministries which will look into the various aspects to bring life back into gear in Sikkim.
