Sikkim government to provide comprehensive support to landslide-affected families

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang addressed the ongoing challenges faced by families affected by recent landslides, floods and heavy rains. He assured that the government is committed to providing all necessary assistance to those who have lost their properties in the disaster.

"We have all the necessary help and support from the government side. For families affected by the recent natural calamities, we are providing land so they can rebuild their homes," Tamang said.

While discussing the Sikkim Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) report, the Chief said that the report has not yet been submitted but is expected soon. He confirmed that GLOF was a result of a cloudburst. "As for budget is concered, the initial allocation of Rs 23 crore for lake study and mitigation is insufficient. We will assess the situation further once the report is in hand, and then a final amount will be announced," he added.

Tamang also mentioned the Post Disaster Needs Assessment report and said that the Government of India is currently reviewing the proposal submitted by the state for a reconstruction grant of Rs 3,600 crore following the GLOF incident.
