The staff of District Hospital Gyalshing, Sikkim joined hands in a nationwide protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Through the protest, the staff expressed outrage over the incident which took place on August 9, where a female resident doctor was brutally raped and murdered within the hospital during her duty hours. They condemned the act as inhumane and unacceptable.
In response to the incident, the Gyalshing hospital staff called for immediate and strict punishment for those responsible further urging the implementation of stronger laws to ensure the safety of healthcare workers and to prevent crimes against women in the workplace.
They stressed that although this tragedy occurred in Kolkata, it could happen to anyone, anywhere, highlighting the urgent need for action.
