Sikkim healthcare professionals hold candlelight vigil to protest against Kolkata doctor's rape-murder

Healthcare professionals in Sikkim carry out a candlelight vigil in MG Marg, Gangtok, in protest against the recent rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. 
 

Gangtok's two major hospitals, the government-run Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial Hospital and private Central Referral Hospital halted their patient department and operative services on August 17.
 

Citizens and health professionals carried placards and demanded justice for the victim with stringent punishment for the perpetrators of the heinous crime against a Health professional. 
 

Earlier today, the staff of District Hospital Gyalshing, Sikkim also joined hands in a nationwide protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
 

Through the protest, the staff expressed outrage over the incident which took place on August 9, where a female resident doctor was brutally raped and murdered within the hospital during her duty hours. They condemned the act as inhumane and unacceptable.
