Sikkim: Indian Army constructs 70-foot bailey bridge in less than 72 hours

In a remarkable feat of engineering, the Indian Army, supporting the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and local administration, constructed a 70-foot Bailey Bridge on the Dikchu-Sanklang road in Sikkim within 72 hours.

This effort, led by the Army engineers of Trishakti Corps, was in response to the recent floods that disrupted road communications to many areas in North Sikkim.

The construction began on June 23 and was completed despite incessant rains and challenging technical constraints. The bridge, located at Dett Khola on the Dikchu-Sanklang axis, is a crucial link that facilitates vehicular traffic from Dikchu to Sanklang towards Chungthang.

This infrastructure is vital for providing basic necessities, including critical medical aid, to the affected people of Mangan district.

Mr. Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, the State Forest Minister, along with the state secretary of Disaster Management, visited the site on June 27, 2024.

They lauded the Indian Army's swift and efficient efforts in restoring connectivity and helping return normalcy to the flood-affected regions.
