Durand Cup 2023: East Bengal football fans verbally abuse Northeast students amid semi-final match in Kolkata

Amid the ongoing semi-final match of Durand Cup 2023, East Bengal football fans allegedly abused students from Northeast India.

In a video that has gone viral on social media shows local football fans verbally assaulting students from the Northeast and also abusing female students.

Meanwhile, taking control of the situation, the Indian Army deployed on the ground was able to bring the situation under control and escorted the students.

Amidst the intense match, a red card and a last-minute equalizer in the second-half stoppage time propelled the game into a penalty shootout. Demonstrating exceptional composure, the East Bengal Football Club (EBFC) players maintained their nerve during the shootout, ultimately clinching a hard-fought victory.

With this victory, EBFC reached the Durand Cup final after 19 years as they defeated NorthEast by a 5-3 win on penalties.
