West Indies stun Australia with epic test win at Gabba

The West Indies scripted a historic chapter at the Gabba, Brisbane, securing a breathtaking eight-run victory over Australia in the second Test. The hero of the day was none other than the injured pace bowler Shamar Joseph, who delivered a stunning spell despite nursing an injury sustained in the previous night's play.

Needing scans after retiring hurt from a toe injury caused by a Mitchell Starc yorker, Joseph showcased true grit as he returned to the field, claiming an extraordinary 7-68 on the decisive day of the Test match. This outstanding performance by Joseph propelled the West Indies to their first Test win in Australia since 1997.

Australia, chasing a target of 216 for victory, started the fourth day's play at 60-2 with Steve Smith and Cameron Green in control, seemingly on course for a comfortable win. However, Joseph's unexpected burst of pace and precision turned the tide in favor of the West Indies.

With opening bowlers Roach and Alzarri Joseph proving less threatening, Captain Kraigg Brathwaite's decision to introduce Shamar Joseph into the attack proved to be a masterstroke. Joseph's extra pace troubled the Australian batters, and as he continued to scalp wickets, the West Indies gained confidence.

In an extended first session, Joseph bowled Green and Head with consecutive deliveries, followed by dismissing Marsh, Starc, Carey, and Cummins. The icing on the cake was Joseph clean bowling Hazlewood, sealing the victory for the West Indies.

Reflecting on his outstanding performance, Shamar Joseph said, "I was just thinking of the basics, get it at the top of off. I was just trying to find my rhythm, and that was important for me."

Despite Smith's resilient innings of 91 for Australia, the underdog West Indies emerged victorious, stunning the cricketing world and handing the world Test champions a reality check.
