Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the Northeast’s pivotal role in India’s development, citing transformative initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Addressing a gathering, Saha remarked, “Nobody recognized the Northeast's potential before. The Prime Minister has always stressed that the country cannot achieve true development until the Northeast is developed.” Highlighting strides in regional peace, he added, “Twelve historic accords have been signed, eliminating terrorism from the Northeast. This progress will attract significant investments to states like Tripura.”
Touching on relations with Bangladesh, the Chief Minister acknowledged current challenges, stating, “Bangladesh’s situation is a bit messy right now, but it will eventually stabilize.” He expressed optimism about the nearing completion of the Akhaura rail line, emphasizing its mutual benefits: “This project will be advantageous for both India and Bangladesh, fostering greater connectivity and collaboration.”
Earlier, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today announced that the state government is planning to create 219 more cooperative societies, along with 741 multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS).
Dr. Saha made this announcement while addressing the Cooperation Conference, where he also launched and inaugurated eight projects and schemes in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan.
“The GSDP has increased by 8.9%, along with a rise in per capita income. The per capita income in the state was Rs. 1.54 lakh in 2023, which increased to Rs. 1.77 lakh in 2024. The GSDP has doubled. We must work further and harder. Keeping the cooperative sector at the forefront, we must aim to increase per capita income and GSDP through healthy competition among the NE states. Due to the efforts of Home Minister Amit Shah, awareness about cooperatives will increase, attracting more people to this sector. Every state must contribute to enhancing the nation’s economy,” Dr. Saha stated.
Dr. Saha also expressed gratitude to PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for establishing the Cooperation Department post-independence, which he said would help fulfill the dream of a "Vikshit Bharat."
