Former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Dev Varma, expressed delight and readiness for his new role as the Governor of Telangana, as announced by the President of India.
The 'unexpected appointment' marks a significant milestone in Varma's political journey, one that he views as both a challenge and an opportunity to further develop Tripura.
Speaking with India Today NE, Dev Varma said that the President of India announced his appointment as the Governor of Telangana on the night of July 27, and he sees it as an opportunity.
“Life is full of surprises, and a political life is full of even more surprises. So it came as a surprise and also as a challenge because we have been linked to the organization for a long time in Tripura. Today, I have been nominated as the Constitutional head of a government, and my work will be more coordinated to ensure the coordination of the Centre and state and to ensure that the state government works as per the Constitution of India. These are the two main duties of a Governor, besides looking after other development works,” said Dev Varma.
He further pointed out that while the post of Governor is very new to him, his experiences as a state minister will be of help.
“It is very new, but I was a minister for five years, and I can share some experiences with the Chief Minister and other ministers of Telangana state, bringing some ideas to Tripura. Telangana is a quite developed state with all the IT sectors there, and maybe I can speak to some people there about investing in Tripura. It will be a sharing of ideas and concepts and taking things forward. For me, it will be a new experience as a Constitutional head, not as a political activist, which I have been for a long time,” the incumbent Governor told this publication.
He added that life should be very colorful with lots of experiences.
“This is going to be a very interesting assignment for me. I thank the Telangana Chief Minister who called me yesterday,” he added.
