Protests erupt in Tripura against persecution of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh

A massive protest, including a sit-in demonstration, was launched on Monday in front of the office of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Agartala, protesting atrocities against Hindu minorities and demanding the release of ISKCON member Chinmoy Das Prabhu.

The protest was joined by the ‘Hindu Sangharsh Samity,’ a right-wing organization that drew participation from people across various sections.

“The Bangladesh interim government has illegally arrested Hindu leader and ISKCON member Chinmoy Das Prabhu. What we heard is that they didn’t even serve food to him. This is totally illegal and inhumane. We are demanding the immediate release of Chinmoy Das Prabhu. As Hindus, we cannot tolerate the attacks on Hindu minorities living in Bangladesh,” said one protestor.

She pointed out that in India, many Muslims, who are a minority, live peacefully without facing any atrocities.

“We are not attacking our Muslim brothers and sisters here. Then why are they doing such things to us? Our protest will continue until the Yunus government releases the ISKCON leader,” she told reporters.

BJP Vice President Subal Bhowmik, who also joined the protest, said that attacks on Hindu minorities have significantly increased over time.

“We strongly condemn such acts. For a long time, and especially after the change in government, these attacks have intensified. Today, we have come here from various organizations to stage this protest,” he said.

He added that the Indian government has also warned the Bangladesh government.

“Md. Yunus is solely responsible for everything and for provoking people against the Hindu minority,” Bhowmik added.

Tripura, which shares an 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, has been witnessing massive protests against the attacks on Hindu minorities in the neighbouring country, with protesters burning effigies of Md Yunus.
