The Government Railway Police (GRP) detained six Bangladeshi nationals, including three transgender individuals, at Jirania Railway Station in Tripura’s West District on Thursday night. The group was reportedly traveling to Mumbai.
According to GRP Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, authorities acted on a tip-off about a potential illegal border crossing. "We received information that some Bangladeshi nationals who had entered the state unlawfully might try to leave from Jirania Railway Station. Following the tip, we coordinated with sister agencies and swiftly arrived at the station," Das said.
Upon arrival, the police detained six individuals who were waiting for a train. Initially, they claimed to be residents of Bishalgarh. However, after further questioning, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals who had entered Tripura on October 6th. The group was headed to Mumbai, where they intended to settle.
The arrested individuals hailed from two districts in Bangladesh—four from Kishoreganj and two from Noakhali. A case has been registered against the group for illegal entry into India, and they have been produced before the court.
