Tripura District Council takes stride towards healthcare excellence, launches specialized Cancer Consultation

In a significant move aimed at providing quality healthcare, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has for the first time launched a special consultation service for cancer patients at Kherengbar Hospital in Khumulwng, the headquarters of TTAADC.

After inaugurating the service, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the royal scion and former chairman of Tipra Motha, announced that initially, this service would be available every second Wednesday of the month.

"We are delighted to announce that on every second Wednesday of each month, people residing in TTAADC areas who are suffering from cancer can avail treatment at Kherengbar Hospital. Many individuals have been traveling to Vellore, Chennai, and other distant places for expensive cancer treatments. Now, this service will be accessible at Kherengbar. If the number of patients increases, we will extend the service to 15 days a month and consider further expansion based on demand. Our primary goal is to ensure that indigenous people, who are currently spending significant amounts on their treatment, can receive affordable and high-quality treatment locally," said Pradyot.

He mentioned that consultations would be provided free of cost, and the operation fees would be minimal.

"I will strive for subsidized treatment. Today, approximately 15 people have sought help, and three have been identified as cancer patients. Early detection increases the chances of recovery," he emphasized.

Pradyot highlighted that the service is a result of collaboration with the Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Centre, and a cancer specialist will be available for patients every second Wednesday of the month.

"This service will initially be offered for free, and we aim to make it a weekly occurrence within the coming months. Early detection of cancer is crucial," he added.
