Tripura: Drugs worth Rs 1 crore seized in Sepahijala, peddler absconding

In a significant operation Tripura Police in Melaghar under Sepahijala District has seized a huge cache of narcotics worth Rs 1 crore.

Tripura’s Sepahijala district shares a large portion of international border with Bangladesh.

Speaking on the issue, Sepahijala District Superintendent of Police B Reddy said that police had been tracking one person identified as Farooq Hossain, for the past 3-4 days based on intelligence reports as he kept a huge cache of drugs.

“We have been receiving information about the stockpiling of these drugs for the past few days. Our officers worked diligently to monitor Farooq Hossain before executing the operation. Officer-in-Charge Debashis Saha of Melaghar police station along with other forces in Sepahijala District has cordoned the house of Farooq and conducted a raid. During the raid we have seized  drugs with an estimated market value Rs 1 crore”, said the SP.

He said they have seized  35,200 Yaba tablets and 158 bottles of Phensidyl concealed in an abandoned room of Farooq Hossain's house. 

Despite the raid, Farooq Hossain was not apprehended as he was reportedly absconding from his residence at the time of the operation. However, the police have information about his current whereabouts. Superintendent Reddy assured that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the accused, stating, "Farooq Hossain may be arrested soon; we are actively pursuing leads."
