Tripura: Man critically injured in bear attack while working in Jhum field

A 34-year-old man named Pramit Kumar Reang from the Tushaidian area of Kanchanpur sub-division under North District of Tripura is currently fighting for his life at Dharmanagar District Hospital after being attacked by a bear on Sunday evening.

Family sources said that the incident occurred around 5:30 PM when Pramit was cultivating his jhum field and later went into the forest in search of bamboo shoots.

According to family members, the bear attacked Pramit suddenly, leaving him severely injured, with most of the flesh on his face torn.

“His agonizing screams drew his family to the scene, who immediately rushed him to Kanchanpur Health Center. Due to the lack of adequate treatment facilities there, Pramit was later shifted to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where he remains in critical condition”, said Parimal Reang brother of the injured man.

Parimal Reang, expressed the family’s deep distress, stating that Pramit is the sole breadwinner for his wife and three children, with the family depending entirely on jhum cultivation for their livelihood. The attack has left them devastated, both emotionally and financially.

Despite the severity of his injuries, doctors at Dharmanagar District Hospital are providing Pramit with proper medical care and working tirelessly to stabilize his condition. The family is hoping for his swift recovery.
