Following the peace accord signed between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and two banned insurgency outfits, including the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), around 584 cadres of these groups laid down their arms before Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and joined the mainstream.

The arms-laying ceremony was held at the Headquarters of the 7th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles, located at Jampuijala in Tripura’s Sepahijala District.

Addressing the event, Chief Minister Dr Saha stated that the peace accord was signed by the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, the NLFT, and the ATTF, following which the cadres laid down their arms and joined the mainstream.

“When Narendra Modi took charge as Prime Minister, he always emphasized that the development of the country is not possible without developing the Northeast. We can see that the Northeast, which was once grappling with terrorism, is now almost free from it, as around 12 peace accords have been signed, three of which are from Tripura. Without peace in the state and the country, development is not possible. From today, we can say that Tripura is now free from terrorism. The State and Central governments have implemented a series of schemes for the development of the Janajati people,” he said.

Dr. Saha, who is also the Home Minister of the state, remarked that problems cannot be solved through envy.

“To those who have spent their lives in a very difficult manner and have now joined the mainstream, I want to extend my welcome,” he added.

During the event Tripura DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DGP (Intelligent) Anurag, Chief Secretary JK Sinha and others were present.
