The Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested 28 Bangladeshi nationals and two Rohingyas from two different locations in separate operations.
Speaking with reporters, Agartala Railway Station Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das stated that authorities, on July 28 morning received information about a large number of Bangladeshi nationals arriving at Agartala Railway Station.
“As per the inputs, the BSF, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and other sister agencies cordoned off the entire railway station and blockaded the entry and exit points. Initially, we detained 10 persons on suspicion, then the BSF detained 7 more, and eventually, we detained all 23 Bangladeshi nationals,” said the OC.
He mentioned that a case has been registered against them for entering Tripura illegally and attempting to travel to Chennai. “We have produced them before the Court seeking police remand,” he added.
Meanwhile, in a joint Mobile Check Post (MCP) of BSF and Tripura Police under Amtali in West District apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals including one transgender.
The apprehended persons have been identified as MD Tamim Hussain (18), Biplab Banik (53), Utpala Banik (42), Nijhar Banik (17), Juli Pal (transgender, age 18 years).
The BSF further said that in a separate incident 02 Rohingya Illegal Migrants were apprehended by alert BSF troops in the bordering area of BOP Tillabazar under District North Tripura while they were trying to enter into Indian territory.
“The information provided by them has also led to the apprehension one suspected tout. Questioning is in progress. BSF has enhanced the vigil and operations along the border to foil the attempts of infiltrators and touts”, said BSF.
