Two days after the Tripura Police arrested two militants from the banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), on Saturday, the police apprehended three more including one self-styled Major and an associate of the outfit, from the Khasnam Para Bru settlement camp in the North District of Tripura, which shares an interstate border with neighboring Assam and Mizoram.
Speaking on the matter, North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty informed India Today NE that the arrest was carried out based on a tip-off, and personnel from the Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles conducted a raid in the early hours of Saturday.
"In the raid at Khasnam Para Bru settlement camp, we have arrested two active cadres of the banned insurgent outfit NLFT. They were identified as Ganaram Rang @ Baileng, a self-styled Major, and Rai Bahadur Reang. They are residents of Anadabazaar under the North District. They joined NLFT(PD) in the month of July 2023," he said.
The SP added that they also arrested Rai Taingha Reang from Khasnam Para, who assisted them in taking shelter.
"We have seized one Chinese Pistol, live ammunition, NLFT notices and some subscription notices, Rs 3360 Indian currency, and 6795 Taka of Bangladeshi currency," said the SP.
However, intelligence sources have indicated that the arrested extremists crossed over from NLFT (Parimal Debbarma) hideout at Jupui in Bangladesh.
