Amid the ongoing floods wreaking havoc in Assam, a ray of hope has emerged through the innovative efforts of Professor Harjeet Nath from Tripura Central University. Head of the Chemical and Polymer Engineering Department, Prof. Harjeet Nath's patented flood water purification machines have become a lifeline for many affected by the disaster.
Deployed in the flood-affected Cachar district of Assam, these machines have been instrumental in delivering clean drinking water to thousands. Speaking to India Today NE, Professor Harjeet Nath highlighted the significance of their innovation in addressing the urgent need for safe drinking water during natural calamities like the current floods in Assam.
"Our patented flood water purification machines, developed by the Chemical and Polymer Engineering Department of Tripura University, are now operational in Assam. Our mission is to provide WHO-standard pure water to those affected by the floods," explained Prof. Harjeet Nath.
He elaborated on the versatility of the 'portable suitcase water purifier' developed in 2019, capable of functioning on electricity, solar power, or rechargeable batteries in the absence of both. This innovation, now patented, has been refined to meet Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications, ensuring safe water distribution to disaster-stricken areas.
"In collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, we have been distributing approximately 2000 liters of purified water daily to flood victims in Cachar over the past two days," Prof. Harjeet Nath affirmed, emphasizing the immediate impact of their initiative on ground relief efforts.
Prof. Harjeet Nath expressed confidence in further expanding their efforts to alleviate the plight of flood victims across Assam in the coming days.
