The 2008 Assam bombings  occurred on October 30, 2008, in markets in Guwahati city and the surrounding areas of western Assam.

The number of bombs that went off ranged from 10 to 18, resulting in at least 81 deaths and 470 injuries.

The blasts targeted crowded areas such as Pan Bazar, Fancy Bazar, and Ganeshguri in Guwahati, along with Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, and Barpeta Road.

The blasts took place just after the Diwali holidays, adding to the unexpected nature of the attacks.

The bomb at Ganeshguri was planted in a car, located near the Chief Minister of Assam's residence.

Security forces were deployed, and a high alert was issued by the Government of Assam following the attacks.

Clashes between angry crowds and the police occurred in some areas of Guwahati, hampering cleanup efforts.

The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital faced an acute shortage of blood for treating the victims.

The National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was identified as the group responsible for the bombings.
