Roll out the dough for the bottom crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. You can use store-bought dough or make your own by combining flour, butter, salt, and water.

Peel, core, and slice about 6-8 medium-sized apples. Toss the apple slices in a bowl with lemon juice to prevent browning.

In a separate bowl, mix the apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and a tablespoon of flour. This mixture will give the pie its sweet, spiced flavor and help thicken the filling.

Pour the apple mixture into the prepared bottom pie crust. Make sure to spread the apples evenly. Add small dots of butter on top of the filling for extra richness.

Roll out the second pie dough and place it over the apple filling. Trim the excess dough, leaving about an inch overhang. Crimp the edges together to seal the pie, and make a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

Brush the top crust with a beaten egg mixed with a tablespoon of water. This will give the crust a golden, shiny finish when baked.

Preheat to 375°F (190°C) and bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. If the crust begins to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil and continue baking.
